The band was formed in Florida in 1984 after a falling out between Chuck Schuldiner, Kam Lee and Rick Rozz in the band Mantas (later Death). In 1987, Schuldiner brought Rick Rozz back into the band. He brought his bandmates, drummer Bill Andrews and bassist Terry Butler to Death, who already had a record deal and a released album, Scream Bloody Gore. As a result, Kam Lee was left alone for the time being. However, he was able to put together a new line-up and after the release of three demos, which were well received in the tape trading scene, he received a contract with the British record label Earache Records with "Massacre". There the debut album From Beyond was released, which is now considered a classic of early death metal. After a break, the band tried to build on their old successes with a new album in 1996, but this did not succeed and the band broke up.
