James Marshall "Jimi" Hendrix (born November 27, 1942 as John Allen Hendrix in Seattle, Washington, † September 18, 1970 in London) was an American guitarist, composer and singer.

Hendrix, who is considered one of the most important and influential guitarists because of his experimental and innovative way of playing the rock electric guitar, had a lasting effect on the development of rock music. With his bands - including The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Gypsy Sun & Rainbows - he had appearances at the most popular music festivals of his time, such as the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and the Woodstock Festival in 1969
